Benji’s, The Kitty Pills Review
The Benji’s – Kitty Pills EP
The Benji’s are an indie pop trio that’s not quite punk, but more radio ready alternative rock ala Joy Zipper or Veruca Salt. The vocals will remind you of Letters to Cleo’s Kay Hanley and the music is filled with cheerful keys, subtle guitar fills, and hooks galore. Blasts of catchy alt pop punk with the exclusion of ‘Tapes,’ which is the unofficial slow dance anthem of Sadie Hawkins dances everywhere.
Released Feb 14, check out the band’s bandcamp site

Wm. Gorman has issued his sophomore album, “Wine Dark,” a mere 10 months after his debut “Plague Under The Portico.” Sounds like Jazzmasters and Rickenbackers through an active pedalboard along with EBow and a dollop of Mellotron. Musical touchstones remain the guitars of Marr and Buck, with a healthy influence from British and American indie and power-pop. Lyrical themes include Satan, conflict in Europe, anxiety, near death experiences, the ugliest American, the liars on the Supreme Court, and youth. Then, an homage to Eno. Thanks for listening

In early 2022 Steve K set out to make an album that sounded as little like the Grateful Dead as possible. Something totally opposite than their brand of loose grooves and kind stylings. He wrote about 14 songs, and all of them were pretty much diametric to the sound of the Dead. He started recording the songs, and after the first few were completed it was becoming pretty clear that this album wasn’t sounding anything like the Grateful Dead. There was no point recording the rest of the songs. Thus this 5 song EP was born.
