The author’s fourth volume of poetry. Everywhere; inspiration, imagination, and creation abound. Perspectives change. Understandings emerge. Not unlike the natural course of things, the cyclical nature of creative productivity goes on and on and on. Each instant marks the next. Each is a part of the other. The importance lies in the ability to discover what’s new, support what has been, and look to the past for what was. It is vital to take part in culture, to explore our environment, and learn from individuals who are appreciative of it. That is the journey. There is nothing more worthwhile than taking a moment to let someone else’s work inspire one’s own creative thought. Exist in the environment, and take comfort in the place you currently inhabit. Time moves forward. The passage of it brings about age. We are born, grow up, and die. People met and places traveled to, no matter how close or far, fill the intervals in between, and influence life on many levels. And so this new volume of poetry was born. These are the dispatches from the fort.

It’s hard to say no to your mother when the one thing she asks for every Christmas is a personally written story or poem. Based on the knowledge that the Kennedy kids used to write stories or poems for their parents as gifts, author R. Forand’s mother requested the same. Most were hastily thrown together on Christmas Eve, but all have made their way into this collection, along with four other writings penned for other occasions or to just cheer someone up.

The importance of companionship, which comes in many forms, is a major theme throughout these 16 writings, most taking place right around Christmastime.

75OL-165 Eric Baylies - Heroin's Rainbow book

[sold out]

Exclusive 75orLess Book Special! All book orders come with one Baylies Band album on cd from the label archIves.

Heroin’s Rainbow by Eric Baylies is a memoir of a neighborhood and a city. New Bedford, Massachusetts sits somewhere on the edge of nowhere, a twilight interzone at the end of the world. It is the underground history of the secret city. Big Dan’s, strip club rampages, cruising the avenue, crooked cops, high school suicide solutions, drinking problems, crack houses, shooting galleries, gay bar stabbings, god, guns, heroin, devil dogs, angel dust, acid, mushrooms, mescaline, weed, whales, wishes, dreams, and nightmares come true, they are all here. This is the way, step inside.

Eric Baylies writes for The Boston Noise and was a dj on WUMD. He attended U-Mass and Harvard University. He has played all over America and Europe in the bands Temple of Bon Matin, Bad Motherfucker, Club Math, and Baylies Band. Baylies has recorded or played with members of The Stooges, Violent Femmes, and Sun Ra. Baylies has delivered coffins, unloaded fishing boats, taught special education and been a substitute teacher in public schools, pumped gas, done dishes, tended bar and worked the door at a biker bar, and worked construction. Eric worked at a butcher shop, renaissance fair, golf ball hell, the Zeiterion Theater, factories, the Salvation Army, call centers and maybe thousands more. Baylies has lived in Philadelphia, Chicago, and Martha’s Vineyard and currently lives in New Bedford. Eric has no wives that he’s aware of, but knows where the bodies are buried.
