Sonically grander than previous Minky Starshine records, 2012’s “Womanity” is tightly arranged and produced, delivering bursts of warmth and color from start to finish. The songs continue to feel like memories from our past, but are fashioned to recall the most notable melody makers in todays hip indie culture. This is the birth of a new beat. Drawing upon the classic powerpop running through their blood, Minky and his camp of lovelorn bandits have pulled out all the stops this third time around. The newest addition of drummer John Sands(Aimee Mann, Liz Phair) and Tracy Bonham(vocals/violin) combined with a soundscape of horns, synths and other oddball blips and bleeps, often brings to mind the creative genius of a mad-scientist ringside at the circus. But, how can a cosmopolitan brand of indie rock still be strut worthy while offering listeners such hope and emotional sentiment? This record answers that question while turning new wave aesthetics into old wave media. Oh, the womanity of it all…Produced by Anthony Resta (Duran Duran) and mastered by Chris Gehringer (Rihanna, Lady Gaga) at various locations along the east coast.

bitch brothers are a three piece band from beautiful Worcester, MA. Believing very much in the ethos put forth by the Minutemen and Fugazi, we jam econo – doing as much as we can ourselves. We work the night shift to make a sound that is new, yet still influenced by the the artists we love. This self-titled release encompasses the spirit of our musical democracy. The first half of the album, tracks 1-9, represent their structured and focused studio side. The second half, tracks 10-16, were recorded during several practices and represent their looser, improvisational side.

“Drunkard’s Walk” is Broadcaster’s debut release. Features former members of the band Killing Pablo. A mix of 80s/90s indie rock with 70s classic rock and some psychedelic and surf-rock influences. Think Built to Spill if the Who gave them a polite but stern kick in the ass. Recorded at Forest/City Studios in Portland, ME with engineer Ron Harrity, mastered at Flavorlab Studio by Weston Fonger.

Six Star General releases their fifth album of all new material and seventh album overall. Recorded over two days in November with Scott Rancourt (The Masons, The diePods) at Summing Point Studios in Newport, half of the album had been recorded back in August but the masters went missing. Rather than focus on retrieving on the lost recordings, the band decided to re-record all the songs. Eleven tracks, including one instrumental and a cover of Cat Power’s “Metal Heart”. Influences include The Minutemen, Naked Raygun and Dinosaur Jr.

Garage Sale Picasso is an indie pop band from Providence and Worcester/central MA. They have a powerful female front, layering vocals on top of a sound-scape of guitars, melodic bass, and energetic drums. GSP has been described as being “richly toned” and having an “inherent motion,” seasoned with a deliberate undercurrent of chaos. They have been compared to Smashing Pumpkins and Guided by Voices.
Maria Monk is a rock band from Providence, RI. This split EP with Garage Sale Picasso is the band’s debut release. Diamond Smile references Dinosaur Jr’s guitar-driven attack, while Middle Man blends introspective and provocative lyrics with a loud punk rock drive. Live show favorite Ender’s Game delivers a fast, raucous and angsty performance. Cave In closes Maria Monk’s half of the EP with epic sounds and lyrics, conjuring vast space operas.

It is a sure thing that Hank Sinatra Jr. will one day be a star. Until then, we are lucky enough to be able to pay $7 for his unreal geniusnessosity and be practically assured to get in to any of his shows without them selling out. “Grow A Pear” was performed, recorded, mixed, marstered, mustied and marbled by Hank. With reggae jams, rock anthems, club hits, sea shantys and more, this album proves the genre defying act worthy. 2012 will probably, most likely be the year that the last person, who has not heard of Hank Sinatra Jr., will die.
