After a decade spent as ghost detainees incarcerated at an undisclosed detention camp, the legendary and incendiary Followers return with an album hailed as “Un-American” and labeled “Subversive” by the Department of Homeland Security and the hegemonic Christian Coalition. Long feared confiscated or deleted under the auspices of the inestimable Patriot Act, the insurrectionary and vitriolic album dubbed ‘Secret Handshake’ finally makes its commercial debut. Admittedly an intractable reaction to animal vivisection, authoritarianism, and rampant fascism in America, and inspired to a great extent by psychotropic and flammable solvents, the release of the mercurial and vehement 10 track recording promises to deliver The Followers back into CIA hands to be remanded in Eastern Europe for another decade.

The Brooklyn-based duo Kaiser Cartel, made up of Courtney Kaiser and Benjamin Cartel, have been creating luscious harmonies and infectious melodies together since 2004. Both write, sing, and play multiple instruments on the albums and on-stage. Courtney a former member of John Mellencamp’s band and classically trained vocalist; Benjamin a DIY, self-taught musician. Each had their own solo projects well underway when they met, but the pairing was an unmistakable success.

In 2005, Providence, RI’s Lame Drivers secretly released The Captain Amazing EP – five hook-filled and fuzzed out songs conceived in a New Jersey basement, developed in Providence, and messily birthed onto a handful of CD-Rs. Then they went on hiatus. Now they’re back with this reissue of their debut EP plus five bonus tracks. Lame Drivers make DIY punk-informed pop rock inspired by the unpredictable eclecticism of freeform radio. Such classic, vital tunes are hard to come by these days. Rhode Island singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Fred Kendal Abong is mostly known as onetime bass player for both Throwing Muses and Belly. For the last two years, however, Fred has been busy writing and performing his own material. Moonman is a small sample of the more than one hundred songs written and recorded during this fertile period. Half-electric and half-acoustic, the songs on Moonman have drawn comparisons to The Replacements, Tom Waits, Meat Puppets, The Clash, Firehose, and Bob Dylan.
