Nate Laban is a songwriter born and raised in New Hampshire that has been writing, recording and performing for the last 20 years up and down the east coast of the U.S. Bands he has been in include, Brick House, The Frosting and skate punk band Wallos. Eric Ott has been playing in and around the region for 20 plus years himself and is a writer of critically acclaimed songs. Bands he has been involved with include The Bonnie Situation, Mercuryhat and his latest Eric and The Anxiety. Eric and Nate met at a party fellow songwriter Marty England had at his house in North Berwick, Maine a few years ago. They would meet up frequently for the next year or so and eventually it became a discussion between Eric and Nate to record something together and collaborate on a couple of songs. There was no pressure or time table adhered to and the recording took a year and a half to complete in Nate’s barn. The music itself has a good deal of 60’s pop rock influence, which is something they were striving for but not limiting themselves to. Themes range from soul suckers, failed one-sided relationships, lip balm, fresh new marriages to of course, isolation.

It’s been a decade since Bob Kendall released his debut solo record “Enough is Enough” on his own Kentonerecords label. The founding member of the bands Lifeboat, The Blood Oranges, The Brothers Kendall, and The Labor Pool has finally let go of this collection of songs written, self-produced and recorded in his backyard shed. The title track, “Midnight Flower” features vocals by Tanya Donelly. (Belly, Throwing Muses, The Breeders) “Donelly adds a certain visceral, seventh sense – and conjures up weary-wise tones of Lucinda Williams and Emmylou Harris” (Influenza). Muses drummer, David Narcizo, once again provides his trademark style of hypnotic rhythms throughout the record. Kendall’s songs have been described as “telling tales of recrimination and self-deception”. Song styles and influences are reminiscent of Jeff Tweedy, Teenage Fan Club, Tom Petty, Ian Hunter, The Velvet Underground and Gram Parsons. Mixed and fixed by Kraig Jordan and mastered by Pete Weiss at Verdant Studios.

It was 2007 when we last heard from The Masons. In the 5 years that have followed The Masons have sharpened, honed and refined their signature sound. They ask each song what it wants, and then give each song what it needs. The results of “The Masons’ Method” is Warm Days Long Shadows. 22 songs over 2 CDs, the new double album is permeated with songs about life in the 21st Century. Warm Days features The Masons’ rock ‘n roll credentials with big guitars, pulsing drums and anthemic choruses. Long Shadows delves deeply into keyboard laden atmospheres, slow tempos, softly strummed acoustic guitars, and majestic vocals. Warm Days Long Shadows is the perfect soundtrack for a summer’s night, a winter’s day or any weather pattern.
