DAMA/LIBRA is the enthralling new collaboration between two revered veterans of the national indie and avant rock scenes, Joel R.L. Phelps (formerly of underground rock legends, Silkworm, and currently working with his own band, The Downer Trio) and G. Stuart Dahlquist (formerly of doom metal progenitors, Burning Witch/SunnO))), and currently of Asva). They are proud to be releasing their first full-length album as a duo, Claw, on compact disc on Northern Spy Records in Summer 2014. Combining the unique talents of both artists, Claw is a pronouncement of lush composition – teeming with a quiet intensity, subtle beauty, and pulsating with moments of raw, emotional catharsis
Upon hearing the 2011 collaboration between Asva and French avant artist, Phillipe Petit, Phelps reached out to Dahlquist and proposed the addition of his vocals to an instrumental track he had found particularly moving. Despite having been friends and colleagues for nearly 25 years, discussions about working on a serious project together for the very first time began when a listen through the resulting piece (entitled “Thine”) nearly brought Dahlquist and his wife to tears. With Phelps living in British Columbia and Dahlquist residing in Seattle, all recording and composition for Claw was conducted in their respective home studios and transmitted via email over an 18-month period. The results are a profound representation of their individual yet somehow synchronous growth and maturity as artists. The mutual respect and trust both musicians have for and share with one another is evident in how far they pushed themselves to realize their combined work’s full potential and create what may be the strongest material either of them have ever put forth.

“The session Allysen recorded for us features three of her own songs and one traditional song ‘Blackwaterside‘ which she first heard Anne Briggs performing. The session also marks a new direction for Allysen on which she intertwines her love of psychedelic and trad folk. Her friend Bob Kendall recorded her in his shed one snowy evening. I think you’ll all agree that this session is simply magical, she never disappoints and always leaves you wanting more.” – Alex Gallacher Founder Folk Radio UK

Mark Cutler – Dreamland
75OL-182 Mark Cutler – Dreamland CD
$10.00 S&H Included

Mark Cutler’s new record Dreamland is a collection of songs recorded in a little room in his little house and features some guest appearances by his good friends Jim Berger, Rick Couto, Richard Reed and Bob Kirkman. It’s an intimate record that you might enjoy with headphones but feel free to blast the stereo. It’s also the first record he’s done since he quit his day job to pursue a life outside of the rat race. Dreamland features songs about every day life and every night life and the times in between.
Rhode Island guitar slinger/songwriter Mark Cutler’s latest release is called “Dreamland”. It’s an apt title for the followup to last year’s critically acclaimed and award winning “Sweet Pain” (both available from 75orLess, iTunes, etc.). Along with sparse touches of accompaniment from his excellent live band The Men of Great Courage, MC plays most of the instruments himself this time around. Recorded at his home studio- just down the hall from his bedroom- dreamlike qualities abound, in the title cut, in songs like “I’ll Play For You”, “Soul Flame” and “You’re Gonna Need My Help”, to name but four. Like the mixed memories and visions of wonderful recurring dreams you wish you’d have more often, instruments, lyrics, harmonies and riffs intermingle in ways both familiar and surprising. And, like a dream you can’t quite get out of your head all day, the rustic surrealism of this “Dreamland” will stay with you long after your ear buds are slipped into a pocket.- DR
CD is limited to 200 numbered, brown and white jackets with screen print design

Has it really been two years since the last full-length release from this fever dream of a band? That’s what the calendar tells us, but we haven’t really been sure of anything since the last dose of quinine. Following in the footsteps of Everything Odder Than Everything Else, Fictional Syntax finds Crotchthrottle sinking even further into the morass that is “structured” music, embracing things like melody, rhythm, and occasionally even intelligible vocals. They still remain totally obtuse on the genre front, swerving from quasi-electronic shenanigans to fuzzy freakouts, sometimes within the same song. When asked “What the hell were you thinking?” by management, the band refused to elaborate in any legally binding format.
The first 25 copies sold will get a special gift, hand packaged by the band.
